Biography

Dr. Szymanski is a cultural and gender historian of the 19th- and 20th- century United States. She is working on two projects: a history of the 1975 police killing of Denise Hawkins in Rochester, NY and a Black history of roller skating. Her previous work focused on neurasthenia and men's mental and sexual health in the Gilded Age.

Dr. Szymanski is co-editor at Clio and the Contemporary.
